For the third consecutive year, Jimmy Johnson carried home the winner’s trophy for the Roger Cooper Memorial Stock V8 feature at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway.
After visiting victory lane in the event in 2021 and 2022, the Monroe, Georgia racer charged from the second starting spot to score the win in an event that had been pushed back one week due to rain at the ¼-mile raceway.
With a record 103 cars on the grounds for the combined Roger Cooper Memorial and Pause For The Cause event – which raised $7,000 for an area cancer patient – Johnson was up to the task in the Stock V8 feature that saw heavy attrition.
With only seven of the 20 starters still on track when the checkered flag flew, Johnson beat out 2018 Roger Cooper Memorial winner Mark Chancey to take the victory.
Chad Puckett followed in third, with Jeff Casper in fourth, and Keith Baker in fifth.
In other action, Ken Lampp continued his winning ways with a victory in the Limited Late Model feature. Kenny Collins finished in second, with Chris Woods in third, Trae Kirk in fourth, and Nick Sellers in fifth.
Chris Woods added to his impressive 2023 WBS win total by scoring the victory in the Hobby 602 feature. Frankie Barrett followed in second, with James Cason in third, Chase Watkins in fourth, and Shane Yarbrough in fifth.
Aaron Criswell topped the Modified Street field to score the feature win, with Tyler Canup, Jennifer Everett, Jordan Poole, and Johnny Pilgrim rounding out the top five.
Justin Taylor edged out Cody Albright for the Stock 4A feature victory. Cody Albright finished second, with Scottie Cox third, Kyle Braswell fourth, and Roger Cothran fifth.
Bryson Briscoe was the winner in the Stock 4B feature, with Nichole Proctor in second, followed by Mark Proctor in third, Caleb Peppers in fourth, and Cohen Fortson in fifth.
Wayne Chapman took home top honors in the Front Wheel Drive feature. William Earnest crossed the line in second, with Eddie Segars in third, Jayden Navaro in fourth, and Jake McBride in fifth.
Winder-Barrow Speedway will wrap up the 2023 season on Saturday, October 7, with the track’s Hall of Fame induction night. For more details, visit WinderBarrowSpeedway.com.
