DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Lumpkin County overcame a slow start to take down Hart County Friday night, 30-10, at The Burial Grounds.
The Indians got things started early as Mason Sullens punched in his first of four touchdowns on the night on the opening drive of the game from a yard out, but from there, both defenses stood tall, not allowing a single point until late in the half as the Builldogs kicked a field goal, capping a 17-play drive to trail 7-3 at halftime.
The offenses woke up in the second half as Sullens got it going with another 1-yard score to push the lead out to 14-3. After a Bulldog score cut the lead back to four, Sullens broke free for a 24-yard touchdown and then added a 2-yard score in the fourth. A bad snap over the punter's head resulted in the Indians getting a safety with little time left in the fourth.
Sullens finished with 116 yards on 22 touches, while the Indian defense held Hart County to just 69 yards in the second half.
Lumpkin County will open 7-3A play next week at Pickens.
