The City of Gainesville is hosting a car seat safety check in recognition of Child Passenger Safety Week.

The drive-thru check will take place at Gainesville Fire Station No. 1, located at 725 Pine St., Gainesville from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sept. 22

Safe Kids Worldwide states that more than 2,600 children under 13 involved in a car crash every day, or one child every 33 seconds.

The latest research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that nearly 60% of car seats are installed or adjusted incorrectly.

Children under 8 years of age must ride in an approved child restraint system and be restrained by a seat safety belt approved under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 208.

Child passenger safety technicians will also be on hand to make sure that the child’s passenger restraint system has been properly installed.
