HOSCHTON, Ga. — No. 1-ranked Buford extended its lead in Region 8-7A to two games after taking a 16-5 win in six innings over Mill Creek on Wednesday on the road.
The Lady Wolves (15-0, 6-0 Region 8-7A) pounded out 21 hits over the course of the 6-inning ballgame. Senior Tavye Borders had four hits and scored four runs but sophomores Summer Castorri and Caroline Stanton and senior Madison Pickens all had three hits, and combined for seven RBI.
After a 1-2-3 inning to open the game, the Buford offense went to work. The Lady Wolves scored three runs each in the second, third, and fifth innings, and blew it open with a six-run sixth.
That was more than enough for sophomore Addie Rackley, who started and went 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs, just two earned, on six hits and one walk. Stanton closed out the game pitching a perfect final 1 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.
The two teams will meet again on Thursday in another region showdown at the Buford Softball Complex.

Audrey Graham and Emma Sundermeyer both homered and combined for five RBI to lead the Class 4A 10th-ranked Lady Bears to a win over the Class 7A Lady Eagles on Wednesday in five innings.
Cherokee Bluff (10-7-1) erased a 1-0 Collins Hill lead with an eight-run second inning, capped by Sundermeyer’s three-run blast to right. The Lady Bears added a run in the third and three in the fourth.
Sophie Goodballet and Jaycee Archer each had two hits along with Graham and Sundermeyer.
Archer also got the win in the circle allowing four runs, only one earned, on five hits and two walks. She struck out two as well.
