1 person killed, 2 seriously injured in Habersham County wreck

One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle wreck Friday morning on Ga. 17 in Habersham County.

The Georgia State Patrol said in a media release the wreck happened at about 8 a.m. near Cool Springs Road. 

A 57-year-old man from Alto was driving a Toyota Camry Solara north on Ga. 17 when the vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and hit a Toyota Highlander head-on. 

The driver of the Camry died as a result of the collision. The man's name was not released.

A passenger in the Camry, Glenn R. Wilson, 31, of Alto, suffered a suspected serious injury. The driver of the Highlander, Trudy Jane Upshaw, 77, of Young Harris, also suffered a suspected serious injury. Both were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville.

Habersham County's Public Information Office said the roadway was shut down until about 10:30 a.m. Friday as a result of the investigation.
