DACULA, Ga. – Commerce went back-and-forth with Hebron Christian Friday night, but it was the Lions who came out on top by a 31-21 final score.
The Tigers were first to strike as Tysean Wiggins carried defenders 11 yards into the endzone midway through the first quarter to take an early 7-0 lead. The Lions answered early in the second quarter on a quarterback keeper, but the point after was no good, allowing Commerce to hold a 7-6 lead, a score that would remain until halftime.
Hebron Christian scored on the opening possession of the second half to take a 14-7 lead, but Commerce answered just 1:15 later as Wiggins broke free for 44 yards to tie the game. The Lions kicked a field goal on their next drive to retake the lead, but the Tigers stormed back in front late in the third as JP Allen found Mac Mullis on a 38-yard passing touchdown to take a 21-17 lead.
The Lions answered on the first play of the ensuing drive to retake the lead, and they streitched it out to the final score late in the fourth quarter to earn the win.
Commerce will look to bounce back in two weeks at Lincoln County.
