Dawson County's Sheriff's Office is warning residents about the latest scam attempts made against vulnerable families.

Officials say scammers are now viewing obituaries in local papers and online to contact mourning families and saying they serve the funeral homes involved in upcoming services.

Sheriff's investigators warn residents that the suspects tell family members they need to VENMO money payments made to them, in order to proceed with arrangements.

If this happens to you, the Dawson County Sheriff's Office says it's a scam, and that best course of action is to directly notify the funeral home about finances, and then contact police to file a report.
