DETROIT, Mich. — Gainesville’s Reese Olson pitched arguably his best game so far in the major leagues on Thursday.
The former North Hall standout tossed a six inning two-hitter, striking out eight and allowing no runs to get his second win of the season as the Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota, 3-0.
Olson (2-5) threw 95 pitches, 59 for strikes, and walked three. Only once, in the fifth, when the Twins got runners at first and third with one out, did they get a runner past second base in Olson’s six innings of work. But he got the final two batters to strike out and ground out to get out of the jam. He retired the final five batters he faced.
The Tigers bullpen retired all nine batters it faced to preserve the win for Olson.
