A Towns County Detention Center employee is facing charges after authorities said she smuggled a cell phone to an inmate.

A social media post from the Towns County Sheriff's Office Tuesday said Erin Ashley Brown, age 36 of Young Harris, is facing charges of Violation of Oath by Public Officer and Obtaining, Procuring or Giving an Inmate Prohibited Items Without Authorization.

Officials said the detention center was locked down Monday after investigators got a tip that a cell phone had been smuggled into the facility. A search and investigation reportedly determined that Brown had smuggled the cell phone to a specific inmate.

A statement in Tuesday's post by the sheriff's office said:

"Sheriff (Ken) Henderson wants it to be known that this type of behavior will not be tolerated, and that detention center security is very important and the detention officer who is currently being held without bond is facing serious charges."

The name of the inmate the phone was allegedly smuggled to or why it was brought in has not been released.
