A member of the Gwinnett County Police Department Tele-service unit helped a decorated Vietnam war veteran who fell victim to a phone scam.
According to the GCPD Twitter account, Kit Joseph was at a pharmacy on her day off when she noticed an elderly man withdrawing money from the ATM and talking on the phone nervously. Joseph had the feeling the man could be a victim of a phone scam.
Joseph followed the man outside and began speaking to him. The man told her the person on the phone claimed to be collecting medical debt for a family member in California.
The supposed scammer hung up the phone quickly when they heard the exchange.
Joseph then helped the man contact the bank and recover some of the money he transferred and she asked him to file a police report on the incident.
The next day the man called to file the report with Joseph per her request.
