Officials with Banks County Fire and Emergency Services remained on scene Monday afternoon after a weekend fire at the Metro Site Fabricators facility in Commerce.
According to Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols, crews first responded at about 3:45 p.m. Friday to the Metro Site facility on Industrial Park Boulevard in Commerce to a report of a fire.
Arriving units found the business with a large amount of fire showing. Nichols said the business was used as a recycling facility. Fire consumed three of the five buildings on site before it was contained.
Several buildings were heavily damaged during the incident.
The fire scene was still active as of early Monday afternoon, with crews working on hot spots and with the removal of debris and product from the remaining structures.
Officials are working to determine the cause and origin of the blaze.
Heat and exhaustion injuries were reported from four fire personnel during the incident and they were treated on the scene.
The Jackson County Fire Department, Commerce Fire Department and Bold Springs Fire Department assisted with the incident.

First-hand eyewitness reports came in Friday evening indicating a working fire was taking place at or near Metro Site Fabricators in Commerce.
There has been no official confirmation from fire department officials.
Local residents in the “Banks County Real Talk” Facebook group confirm having seen the smoke for miles around.
