The Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board recommended approval of a new inpatient rehabilitation facility on Tuesday.
The new facility will be built in the former location of the J and J Foods grocery store on the east side of Limestone Parkway, between Clarks Bridge Road and Flintridge Road.
The rehab center was proposed by the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and would allow for more than 50 beds for patients recovering from stroke, head injury, amputation and other complex medical issues.
NGMC Gainesville currently only allows for 24 inpatient beds and determined that the location of the former grocery store would better fulfill its needs.
Construction on the new facility is planned to take place in the second quarter of 2024.
This item will go before the Gainesville City Council for a final vote on August 1.
