Gwinnett County officials are advising residents to be cautious after a rabid kitten was identified after reportedly biting multiple people in Lawrenceville last week.

A release from the county Wednesday said the rabid kitten was identified on June 28 after it bit its owner and veterinary staff. The kitten's residence was on Sunny Hill Road just north of Old Peachtree Road.

Officials advised residents in the area to avoid any animals that are seen behaving in unusual ways. Pet owners are also advised to make sure their pets are current on their rabies vaccinations.

Officials said anyone who is bitten or scratched by an animal suspected of having rabies should seek medical care immediately.
