RUMFORD, R.I. — Bartley Forrester could not hold his first round lead at the 61st Northeast Amateur Invitational on Wednesday at Wannamoisett Country Club.
Forrester, a former North Hall and current Georgia Tech standout, shot a 4-over par 73 on Thursday to fall four shots back of the leaders after the second round. A rough front-nine -- after beginning his round on No. 1 -- saw him car four bogeys and a double-bogey after firing a 2-under on his first nine holes.
The Gainesville native began the day with a two shot lead and led by as many as three strokes following a birdie on the Par 5 17th. But things began to unravel for Forrester with a bogey on No. 2, his 11th hole of the day.
He followed with a bogey at No. 5, a double-bogey on the Par 4 6th, and closed out the round with bogeys at Nos. 8 and 9.
Despite the rough outing, Forrester is tied for third at 3-under (135) with a group of six others. Caleb Surratt of Indian Trail (NC) leads the way at 7-under with Luke Clanton Hialeah (Fla.) in second at 6-under.
Forrester will tee off at 1:38 p.m. for Friday's third round.
