The final portion of the Tumbling Creek Section of the Highlands to Islands Trail, located near the University of North Georgia’s campus in Oakwood, will be unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, July 13 at 11 a.m.

A portion of the trail - including a wooden boardwalk and tree-lined trails - opened to the public in February and extended the existing path an additional quarter-mile from the pedestrian tunnel under Atlanta Highway to the pedestrian bridge near UNG.

A release from Hall County Government said the final piece of the Tumbling Creek Trail project has created more than one-half mile of additional trail space.

Free parking for the ribbon-cutting ceremony will be available inside the parking lot of the University of North Georgia’s Health Sciences Building at 2990 Landrum Education Drive in Oakwood.

UNG officials will provide a golf cart shuttle service to transport guests to and from the ribbon-cutting ceremony location.

Guests may also follow directional signage that will be placed alongside the trail for a short walk to the ceremony.
