The rumors of the nation's No. 1 quarterback and Georgia-commit Dylan Raiola taking his talents to Buford are true.
Several recruiting outlets reported the story Wednesday morning, and Buford coach Bryant Appling confirmed the move to AccessWDUN.
According to UGASports.com Blayne Gilmer, Raiola faced a possible five-game suspension "due to Arizona Interscholastic Association's intrastate transfer rules."
Dylan's father, Dom Raiola, confirmed the report of the possible suspension to UGASports.com.
"The important thing for Dylan was to be able to compete for his last season in high school," Dom Raiola told UGASports. "And after meeting with the head coach at Pinnacle, the coach was confident that he'd have to sit out games to start his senior year."
Dylan Raiola transferred from Chandler High School to Pinnacle High School. After the transfer earlier this year, he applied for a hardship to the AIA, which, if granted, would have allowed him to play immediately. According to UGASports.com, AIA said it would rule on August 15, 10 days before the 2023 season begins in Arizona. Pinnacle kicks off its season on August 25 against Arbor View High in Las Vegas.
The AIA bylaw, article 15, section 10.1 says, "A student shall be ineligible for all contests at all levels until after the first 50% of the maximum allowable Power Rankings regular season contests in those sports in which the student participated during the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the season in which the student is seeking eligibility."
As per Georgia High School Association rules, the Raiola family must make a bona fide move into the Buford school district.
Dylan's younger brother, Dayton, is also moving with his family. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound pro-style sophomore quarterback currently has an offer from Nebraska. He'll give Buford some added depth at quarterback for the next three seasons.
Dylan Raiola, a senior, will battle senior Tristan Gabrels and junior Christian Langford for the Wolves' starting quarterback job this summer. Whoever wins the starting job at Tom Riden Stadium this fall will have several Power 5 targets, including KJ Bolden and Tyshun White
