Projects to renovate Gainesville's Lee Gilmer Airport have taken off quicker than projected.
The first phase of the Runway 5-23 renovation project has been completed 11 days ahead of schedule, according to the City of Gainesville's website and media releases.
City officials closed down runways temporarily in May for a repaving plan that was expected to take through June 25.
That portion of the project wrapped up prior to June 15.
Plans for finishing the paving and grooving of runways 5-23 and 11-29 will close sections of those pavements beginning on July 10 with a target date for overall completion by July 19.
