Forsyth County officials have reported a sewage spill near James Creek in the southeast end of the county that reportedly spilled thousands of gallons of sewage into a tributary of James Creek.

In a release Sunday afternoon, county officials said the incident happened around 5:45 p.m. Saturday in the area of Homestead Ridge Drive and Three Chimneys Lane in the Three Chimneys Farm community off of Windermere Parkway.

Forsyth County Water and Sewer crews arrived at the scene and reportedly found a blockage in the downstream manhole of rags, grease and construction debris. The blockage was removed and the spill was contained shortly after 9:00 p.m.

Officials estimate that around 4,100 gallons of sewage spilled into the unnamed tributary.

Sunday's release said the ground around the spill has been cleaned and the county has notified the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.
