A 20-year-old man is facing charges for the alleged murder of his infant child.

According to Oakwood Police Chief Tim Hatch, Hugo Alexander Flores Reyes, 20, is the suspect in the incident.

Hatch said the investigation began after the Oakwood Police Department was contacted by Children's Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta in reference to a 10-week-old infant who had been severely injured.

The investigation into the injuries led authorities to a home on Lanier Mill Circle in Oakwood, which subsequently led to the arrest of Reyes, the infant's father. He was initially charged with aggravated battery and first-degree cruelty to children.

However, Oakwood Police were later notified by the Hall County Coroner's Office and Scottish Rite that the child had died from their injuries.

Reyes' charges were then upgraded to felony murder.

He was being held in the Hall County Jail as of Friday morning.

Hatch said the investigation is still active.
