SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Led by an even-par 70 from sophomore Maxwell Ford, the University of Georgia men's golf team carded an 11-over-par 291 on Saturday to sit tied for 13th following the second round of the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club.
The 30-team field features 20 teams that are ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll. Illinois holds the 36-hole team lead with a two-round total of 2-under-par 558 (285-273). Florida is second at 1-over-par 561 (283-278), while Georgia Tech and North Carolina are tied for third at 6-over-par 566. The Bulldogs are ties for 13th with a 36-hole total of 16-over-par 576 (285-291). Georgia Tech’s Ross Steelman holds the 36-hole individual lead at 7-under-par 133.
The Bulldogs were paced by sophomore Maxwell Ford who carded a round of even-par 70, while senior Ben van Wyk fired a round of 3-over-par 73. Senior Connor Creasy and junior Caleb Manuel each tallied rounds of 4-over-par 74. Sophomore Buck Brumlow rounded out the Bulldogs with an 8-over-par 78.
Ford is tied for 19th with a 36-hole total of 1-over-par 141 (71-70), while Manuel and van Wyk are tied for 42nd at 4-over-par 144. Creasy sits in a tie for 84th at 7-over-par 147 (73-74), while Brumlow is tied for 127th at 12-over-par 152 (74-78).
Georgia will return to the course Sunday, May 28 for the third round of the NCAA Championship. The Bulldogs will be paired with Stanford in the morning wave.
