Superintendent Will Schofield intends to recommend Riverbend Elementary School Principal Keri Smith as the new principal of Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School, according to Hall County Schools officials.
Schofield announced his recommendation Friday afternoon and will make his official announcement at the Hall County Schools board meeting Monday, June 12, Director of Communications Stan Lewis said in a press release.
Smith currently serves as principal at Riverbend Elementary School, which is set to consolidate with White Sulphur Elementary School in the fall of 2024 to form Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School.
“We are pleased to have Keri Smith help open up our new elementary school and lead the Sandra Dunagan Deal team,” Schofield said. “She has such a wide range of leadership and early literacy experience, as well as an incredible love for students and their learning. These are exciting times for the communities of Riverbend and White Sulphur," he said.
Smith has served as the principal of Riverbend Elementary School since July of 2022. She has also served as a teacher, instructional coach and administrator for a total of 20 years, officials said.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to serve as the new principal of Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary,” Smith said. “I look forward to working closely with all stakeholders at Riverbend Elementary and White Sulphur Elementary in the 2023-2024 school year to prepare to unite these two long standing community schools.”
