The Flowery Branch Police Department on Friday arrested the head girls' soccer coach at Cherokee Bluff High School on child molestation allegations.
The agency said Calvin Cook, 37, turned himself in at the Hall County Detention Center Friday on one count of child molestation.
Aside from being the head girls' soccer coach at Cherokee Bluff High School, Cook also worked as a physical education teacher at Cherokee Bluff Middle School.
The Flowery Branch Police Department first received a report on April 24 indicating Cook had molested a child under the age of 10 in 2021 while the child was spending the night at Cook's home in Flowery Branch.
A statement from Hall County Schools said the alleged incident did not happen on school grounds. Additionally, the school system said the victim was not a student at Cherokee Bluff Middle School.
"Flowery Branch Police Investigators quickly worked to notify the Hall County School System and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter," a press release from the agency said.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Cook on Tuesday. He turned himself in on Friday.
Cook's attorney, Graham McKinnon, issued a statement denying the allegations.
"Cal’s family and friends are in absolute shock over this accusation," McKinnon said. "Throughout Calvin’s life and teaching career, his character and reputation have been outstanding and beyond reproach. We ask the community to please withhold judgement at this stage in the process."
The school system said Cook was placed on leave with pay.
"The Hall County School District takes these charges seriously and will deal with the situation accordingly," a statement from the school system said.
