The Blackshear Place Library located off Atlanta Highway in Gainesville will be closed for the next three to four weeks for renovations and repairs, according to library officials.
Blackshear Place Library was initially scheduled for upgrades which included fresh paint, new carpet, LED lighting and three study rooms when additional repairs were discovered and warranted a prolonged closing, Library Director Lisa Mackinney said.
"We discovered some damage to the ceiling grid," she said. "The ceiling grid and all of the tiles had to be replaced, which meant [the work] was a lot more invasive compared to being able to section off and paint."
Blackshear Place Library books and materials may be returned at the facility using its outside book return area until renovations are complete.
Passport acceptance services have been temporarily moved to the Gainesville Library located downtown at 127 Main St. NW. Passport services will be available by appointment only at 770-532-331 ext. 151.
"It's amazing how much better its already looking after just about a week and half of work, so we're excited to reopen and we want that to happen as quickly as possible," Mackinney said.
All other branches of the Hall County Library System will remain open during normal business hours.
