The Hall County School Board voted Monday to incorporate money recently allocated by the state towards school safety into the district's budget.
The Georgia state legislature and Governor Brian Kemp earlier this year approved a bill to send $50,000 to each public school in the state to be spent on safety measures. Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield said it will be a big boost to the district's safety efforts.
"That is to be spent at the school, by address. You can't take North Hall High School money and spend it at Flowery Branch High School. It's $50,000 per school," Schofield said after Monday's meeting. "It's very much appreciated and it's always a help. We'll spend whatever it takes, but it sure is nice when the state legislature and our governor recognizes that and sends a check for each of our schools."
Schofield said the money will be used to implement the existing safety plans that the district has already begun putting into place.
"Many of those will include additional cameras in some places, additional doors, different types of locking vestibules in some areas that we'd like to tighten up," Schofield said. "It'll be a little bit different everywhere, but we'll get greater and greater consistency."
The bill will send a total of $1,850,000 to the Hall County School District with an additional $25,000 being added to the budget to cover administrative costs. The budget amendment was approved by the school board unanimously.
