The Jackson Electric Membership Corporation awarded more than $86,000 in grants at its most recent meeting to non-profit organizations and $43,000 was given to organizations serving Hall County, according to officials.

The electric company awarded $18,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lanier; $15,000 to United Way of Hall County; and $10,000 to My Sister’s Place Inc., Vice President of Communication April Sorrow said in a release Monday.

“Jackson EMC Foundation grants are made possible by the 209,979 participating cooperative members who have their monthly electric bills rounded to the next dollar amount through the Operation Round Up program,” Sorrow said.

Since its inception in 2005, Operation Round Up has funded 1,837 grants to organizations and 421 grants to individuals. The program has placed more than $19.2 million back into local communities throughout the past 18 years, she said.

“Any individual or charitable organization in the ten counties served by Jackson EMC may apply for a foundation grant,” Sorrow said. “Applicants don’t need to be a member of Jackson EMC.”

Individuals and charitable organizations in Clarke, Banks, Barrow, Franklin, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison and Oglethorpe counties would be eligible to apply for foundation grants.

According to Sorrow, applications may be submitted online or at a local Jackson EMC office.

A $10,000 Jackson EMC Foundation check was recently awarded to My Sister’s Place for its residence assistance program. At the check presentation (L-R): Phillippa Lewis-Moss, Jackson EMC Foundation board member; Christy Moore, Jackson EMC Foundation board member; Jennifer Bero, My Sister’s Place executive director; David Lee, Jackson EMC Gainesville district manager.
