GAINESVILLE, Ga. —  Maddie Ananthasane, ranked No. 2 overall, shot a 3-over par 75 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Regional at Chattahoochee Golf Club on Monday.

The University of North Georgia golfer is set to tee over at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday.

Ananthasane is three strokes behind the leader. The Dacula, Ga. native shot an even-par front nine, logging a birdie on the ninth hole and a bogey on the fifth. A three-over-par back nine by way of bogeys on 10, 14, and 18 dropped Ananthasane to eighth on a challenging day for the field; overall, the most challenging hole of the day was the 18th hole.

Ananthasane will be paired with Amelie Alcantara of Eckerd and Ainsley Cowart of West Georgia.

Eleven of the 12 teams in the tournament are ranked nationally by Golfstat, including four in the top 10 alone. Lynn is ranked No. 1, Nova Southeastern is No. 3, Anderson is at No. 5, and Rollins is No. 8. This regional has produced 18 national champions and 14 runners-up in the 22-year history of the championship.

The University of North Georgia is partnered with the Greater Gainesville Sports Alliance (GGSA) as hosts for the event. The top five team finishers and two individuals not associated with those teams will advance to the NCAA Division II Championship May 16-20 at Fox Run Golf Course in Eureka, Missouri.
