THOMASVILLE, Ga. — The Lakeview Academy girls soccer team beat the Brookwood School, 2-1, on the road to advance to the second round of the GIAA state playoffs on Monday.

Brookwood struck first on a breakaway, but Annie Nivens found an opening down the left side and placed a perfect ball to Sadie Leek who scored to make it 1-1.

Both teams went back and forth in the second half until a handball in the box gave Lakeview a penalty kick. Annie Nivens blasted it past the goalkeeper to put Lakeview ahead, 2-1.

The Lady Lions' defense, led by Eden Gonzalez, Mei Mei Shen, Anna Kate Westmoreland, Caroline Pope and Jalyn Purdy turned up the pressure on Brookwood to hold them scoreless for the final 20 minutes of play.

Goalkeeper Amelia Corbin had 8 saves in goal for the Lady Lions.
