Boys soccer playoffs: Branch, Union Co. fall in Final 4

Union County was looking for its first finals appearance since 2019. Flowery Branch had not been to the championship match since 2004.

Both will have to wait another year for a shot at state title.

Flowery Branch fell 6-0 to Dalton in the Class 5A semifinals while the Panthers dropped a tough 3-1 decision to Tattnall County in overtime in Class 2A.

Union County led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Antonio Solorio. But Tattnall County scored early in the second half to tie match. The Battle Creek Warriors then scored in the first overtime and held off the Panthers to seal the win.

Flowery Branch found itself down quickly against the powerful Catamounts. Dalton scored in the first five minutes for a 1-0 lead. The Falcons hung tough keeping it just a one-score game into halftime.

However, Dalton scored another quick goal to open the second half. The falcons never recovered as the Catamounts exploded for four more second half goals to put the game away.

Flowery Branch's run in the Class 5A playoffs came to an end on Friday in a 6-0 loss to No. 2 Dalton at Falcons Field in the semifinals.
