It has been a challenging 2023 playoffs for Northeast Georgia-area girls soccer teams.
Fifteen area teams began the Georgia High School Association postseason over its eight classifications. Several highly-ranked teams like Buford and Cherokee Bluff could not make it out of the Sweet 16 last week.
Only three area teams remain as the quarterfinal round kicks off on Monday around the state.
Lanier Christian in GAPPS Class 2A opens its postseason on Saturday against St. John Bosco Academy in Cumming. GAPPS starts with the quarterfinal round.
Region 8-A Division 1 champion and No. 1-ranked Commerce (19-1) is still rolling along behind Ivey Tolbert, Cloe Diaz, and Kate Hill, who have combined for 146 goals so far on the season. They face a tough road test heading to No. 4 Bleckley County (15-3-2) with a spot in the semifinals at stake. The Lady Tigers finished as state runners-up last season.
In Class 3A, No. 7 White County (14-5) heads to Savannah to take on No. 4 St. Vincent's. The Lady Warriors are into the quarterfinals for the first time since 2018 and are 2-0 on the road in the playoffs so far in 2023.
And in Class A Division 1, Towns County (6-5-1) is looking to return to the semifinals for a second consecutive season. The fourth-ranked Lady Tigers head to No. 7 Hawkinsville (9-0) riding a five-match win streak.
