A positive rabies alert has been posted after a rabid raccoon was found in the Chestnut Mountain area.
According to Sarah Crowe, a Public Information Officer with Hall County Government, a dog came into contact with the rabid animal on Ponderosa Farm Road near Strickland Road in southern Hall County.
After the intial contact last Wednesday, the raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab - Virology Section in Decatur.
Hall County Animal Control was advised Friday that the raccoon had tested positive for rabies.
Positive alert signs have been posted in the area where the raccoon was located. If you see an animal acting abnormally in the area, call Hall County Animal Services at (770) 531-6830 or call Hall County Dispatch at (770) 536-8812 during non-working hours.
