Four Hall County Schools are now home to eight students who have been named finalists for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program for the summer of 2023.
The Georgia Governor’s Honors program is a residential summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors who demonstrate dedication to a nominated area of study.
Administered by the Governor's Office of Student Achievement, this year’s program will be hosted on the campus of Georgia State University in Statesboro, GA. The program emphasizes that it offers instruction to high-achieving students that goes beyond the typical high school classroom. Since its beginning in 1964, the program has been free for participants who are accepted.
According to a press release from the school district, over 4,100 students from across the state applied, 1500 were interviewed or auditioned for the program in February, and 700 were chosen as finalists.
The program will run for four weeks from June 18 until July 15. During their time in the program, students will spend their mornings participating in classes in their major area of nomination, spend their afternoons exploring other areas of study, and spend their evenings participating in seminars, activities, concerts, and performances.
The finalists from Hall County and their area of study is as follows:
Flowery Branch High School:
- Benvon Roberts, Communicative Arts
- Logan Huntsman, Engineering
- Declan Dunn, Engineering
- Nicholas Simela, Music
- Carter Massey, Biology/ Environmental Science
North Hall High School:
- Claire Bussler, Music
Johnson High School:
- Brekelle Wilkes, Social Studies
West Hall High School:
- Uyen Ngo, Chinese
