The Forsyth County Fire Department invites Forsyth County students interested in learning what it takes to be a firefighter to sign up for a free weeklong, daytime summer camp program.

The Junior Fire Academy is available for students entering seventh and eighth grade and will be held from Monday, June 19 through Friday, June 23 at Fire Department Headquarters at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Space for the program is limited and campers must be picked up daily by 4 p.m.

The camp will provide participants with education and experience surrounding the job of a firefighter.

Topics covered include firefighting, EMS, search-and-rescue practices and more.

“The Junior Fire Academy is always a highlight of our year at the Fire Department,” Fire Chief Barry Head said. “Beyond getting to experience what a week in the life of a firefighter is like, students will have the opportunity to learn lessons about teamwork, responsibility, leadership and general best safety practices.”

A link to apply is can be found on the Forsyth County Fire Department page.

Those interested in attending the Junior Fire Academy must submit a completed application by Friday, May 5.
