Two people dead in two-vehicle wreck in Union County

Two people died Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on Kiutuestia Creek Road and State Route 2 in Union County.
 
According to a release from the Georgia Department of Public Safety, at about 6:25 a.m., a 2006 Mazda 6 was traveling north on Kiutuestia Creek Road, approaching the intersection of SR 2.  
 
The driver of the Mazda, Krystal Beavers, 46, of Murphy, NC allegedly failed to stop for a red traffic light. Beavers entered the intersection directly into the path of a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, pulling a camper traveling west on SR 2.
 
The driver of the Silverado, James Thurmond, 46, of Blairsville, was traveling west on SR 2 and struck the right side of the Mazda.  
 
Beavers and her daughter, Annie West, a juvenile, were both pronounced deceased at the crash scene by the Union County Deputy Coroner.  Thurmond and his family were transported to Union General Hospital for minor injuries.
 
Alcohol and/or drugs are not a suspected factor in the crash. No charges are pending.
