No one was injured, but storms caused a fire on the roof of West Hall Middle School Saturday morning.

Kimberlie Ledsinger with Hall County Fire Rescue said crews were called to the Oakwood school at around 8:40 a.m.

"Dispatch got a call from a witness saying that there was heavy smoke showing from the roof," Ledsinger said.

When they began to work the scene, they found a small fire in two HVAC units. The building was evacuated and Ledsinger said the fire was put out quickly with what she called "minimal damage." Stan Lewis with the Hall County School District said the damage is not expected to impact classes in the building.

"There was damage to the roof and we had some water get into the building, but our folks in maintenance did an excellent job of getting on top of that," Lewis said. "We feel very confident that we're going to be able to have school at West Hall Middle School once we return from spring break (on April 10.)"

Lewis said there were some trees down around the campus as well, but there was no damage to nearby West Hall High School. He said fire officials indicated to him that weather led to the fire.

"After speaking with the fire department, we ascertained that it was a result of the storm," Lewis said.
