Forsyth County Government announced Friday it will reopen a portion of the Big Creek Greenway Saturday following renovation work.
In a press release, the county said the Big Creek Greenway Phase 2 trail and trailhead at Union Hill has been closed since May 2020 for ground-up renovations.
Renovations include an upgraded decking design on about one mile of the existing boardwalk from the Union Hill Trailhead to Fowler Park (mile markers 3.5 to 4.5).
The reopening of this portion of the trail will give residents the opportunity to use any portion of the 16 miles of greenway trails spanning from Halcyon to Sawnee Mountain Preserve.
“With the arrival of warmer weather this spring, we expect many Forsyth County residents will be using the Greenway with friends and family,” said Parks and Recreation Interim Director Laura Pate. “We are excited to announce that this portion of the Greenway is back open, and we appreciate the public’s patience during the renovation period.”
Greenway trailheads open for public use are located at the following addresses:
- Halcyon Trailhead: 6265 Cortland Walk
- Union Hill Trailhead: 5259 Union Hill Rd
- Fowler Park Trailhead: 4110 Carolene Way
- Bethelview Trailhead: 5120 Bethelview Rd
- Sawnee Mountain Preserve Trailhead: 4075 Spot Rd
