DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Dawson County scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead and hold on for a crucial 5-2 Region 7-3A win at Lumpkin County on Thursday.

The win lifts the Tigers (12-7, 8-3 Region 7-3A) into a tie for second place in the region standings. The Tigers will go for the sweep against the Indians (15-4, 8-3 Region 7-3A) on Friday at home.

Banks Hickman earned the win on the mound for the Tigers, allowing seven hits, no earned runs and four strikeouts in the complete-game performance.

Dawson County's big seventh inning started with a Jacson Rickett double; to left field, followed by a Sawyer Bearden reaching on an error, and C Rucker reached on a bunt to load the bases with no outs.

Two batters later, with the game tied 2-2 and Davis Glass at the play, Cooper Scott balked, allowing Rickett to score the go-ahead run, 3-2. Glass then ripped a line drive to right field to push Bearden home for a 4-2 lead.

The Tigers added the fifth run when Elijah Odom's fly ball was dropped in right field, sending Rucker across the plate for a 5-2 advantage.

Dawson County faced four batters in the bottom of the seventh, sitting three down on fly balls to secure the win.
