Track & Field: NHall girls, Bluff boys lead after Day 1 at Hall Co. Championships

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The North Hall girls and Cherokee Bluff boys hold leads after the first day of the Hall County track and field championships at the Lynn Cottrell Complex.
 
The Lady Trojans amassed 103 points and lead host Chestatee (62) by 41 points. Gainesville is third with 47 and Cherokee Bluff fourth with 40 points.
 
In the boys meet, the top five teams are all within 13 1/2 points with Cherokee Bluff leading the way 59.50 points after the opening day. Gainesville and North Hall are tied for second with 53 points, Flowery Branch is fourth with 48.50, and West Hall fifth with 46 points.
 
The two-day meet will take a day off before resuming at the Lynn Cottrell Complex on Thursday with the track finals.
 
Jhace Justice had himself a day to lead the Bears. The senior won all three jumping events, including setting a pair of personal records. Justice won the long jump with a leap of 22-feet, 4-inches, which was a Georgia Top 25 jump for the season. He took the high jump with a personal-best 6-2 jump, which was a Georgia Top 50 mark. He also won the triple jump, which accounted for 30 of Bluff’s team total.
 
Gainesville got wins from Conner Proffitt in the 3,200-meter run and from the 4x800 relay team. North Hall dominated the pole vault as Matthew Wilbanks and Brandon Ballard finished first and second.
 
West Hall’s Connor Bailey won the discus with Chestatee’s Jordan McIntosh taking the shot put title.
 
The North Hall girls built their big lead with wins in the triple jump and 1,600-meter run. Abi Moore and Clodagh O'Bryant finished 1-2 in the 1,600.
 
Eve Taylor had a big day for the Lady Trojans capturing the triple jump and taking third in the high jump. Anna Reeves also had a strong showing  finishing fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put for North Hall.
 
Chestatee got a win from Emalee Foreman in the high jump while Grace Jones had a solid day taking third in the discus and fourth in shot put.
 
Gainesville sits third on the strength of its relay teams. The Lady Red Elephants won the 4x800 meter relay and finished second in the 4x200 meter relay.
 
Lanier Christian‘s Lily Rowan won the discus and took second in the shot put to help the Lady Lightning to a surprising fifth place spot after the opening day.
