Baseball: Tight 7-3A race could stay that way, at least for another week

A classic playoff race is already developing in Region 7-3A after the first two weeks of the region schedule.

Class 3A No. 2 Pickens, No. 7 Lumpkin County, and Dawson County all will be looking to try and create some separation on Tuesday as they open three-game series' around the area.

All three are tied atop the region standings, and all three will face teams in the bottom half of the standings this week. Pickens (13-3, 5-1 Region 7-3A) opens a series at home against West Hall (3-10, 1-5 Region 7-3A); Lumpkin County (12-2, 5-1 Region 7-3A)opens at home against Gilmer (6-7, 0-3 Region 7-3A); and Dawson County (9-5, 5-1 Region 7-3A) also is at home against Wesleyan (4-5, 1-2 Region 7-3A). White County is off from region play this week but will play host to rival North Hall on Tuesday.

In Region 8-2A, Banks County (5-8, 1-2 Region 8-2A) sits in fourth place just one game ahead of both East Jackson (9-7, 0-15 Region 8-2A) and Union County (0-15, 0-3 Region 8-2A) and all three open three-game series against the top three teams in the region.
