There were only four games on the schedule for Thursday, with Region 7-3A being in full swing to highlight Thursday's action. Mother Nature had other plans.
With a huge storm expected to move through the area on Friday, half-a-dozen games have been rescheduled for Thursday and several more on Saturday.
In Region 8-5A, Class 5A No. 7 Jefferson (11-3, 3-0 Region 8-5A) will go for a series sweep over Flowery Branch (8-7, 1-2 Region 8-5A) in Jefferson in a game moved from Friday. The Dragons beat the Falcons 6-0 on Wednesday and have won eight straight.
Back to Region 7-3A, after an opening week where everyone was within one game of the lead, Dawson County (8-5, 4-1 Region 7-3A), Class 3A No. 2 Pickens (10-3, 3-1 Region 7-3A), and eighth-ranked Lumpkin County (10-2, 3-1 Region 7-3A) have begun to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the field. And, all three will be at home on Thursday. Dawson County is looking for a sweep while Lumpkin County and Pickens are looking to win their series with another game looming.
The Tigers play host to Gilmer (6-6, 0-2 Region 7-3A); the Indians take on West Hall (3-8, 1-3 Region 7-3A); and the Dragons play host to White County (5-7, 1-3 Region 7-3A).
Among the games that were moved, Buford and Mountain View will meet in Lawrenceville in a rubber-match of a key Region 8-7A series. They split the first two games with each winning at home.
In Region 8-6A, Jackson County and Lanier will now play a doubleheader in Hoschton as the Longhorns were unable to secure umpires for Wednesday's matchup in what will be a huge battle for second place and possibly first by the end of the week.
In Region 8-4A, Chestatee (9-6, 2-0 Region 8-4A North) will go for a series sweep over East Hall (4-10, 0-2 Region 8-4A North) looking to stay atop the subregion standings in the early going.
Class 4A No. 1-ranked Cherokee Bluff (13-0, 0-0 Region 8-4A North) will close out its non-region schedule on the road against Class 6A Habersham Central (10-4, 4-1 Region 8-6A North) in Mt. Airy.
