The Gainesville Police Department announced Monday that Max Rocael Calel Sanic, 20, has turned himself in for the alleged murder of Juana Jose, 22, and her unborn child.

On Jan. 29 emergency personnel responded to a medical call at 1108 Cooley Drive. According to a release by Gainesville police, Juana Jose was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and later pronounced dead.

Officials said that due to the suspicious circumstances of the case, investigations began promptly. An autopsy revealed that Jose died by strangulation and as a result, her unborn child died as well.

Sanic has allegedly been charged with malice murder and felony feticide. He is being held in the Hall County jail without bond.
