The first Scorbord.com rankings for Georgia’s prep soccer season was released on Monday, and several Northeast Georgia-area teams are getting some early recognition.
Two girls teams are ranked No. 1 in their classification. Buford (3-1) sits perched atop the Class 7A rankings while Lumpkin County (4-0) is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, and is one of three Region 7-3A teams in the top seven.
Dawson County (4th) and White County (7th) also cracked the top 10 in Class 3A in the poll. Commerce, the 2022 Class A Public state runner-up, is fifth in the first Class A Division 1 poll. Cherokee Bluff is eighth in Class 4A and is one of three Region 8-4A teams to be ranked with North Oconee ranked No. 1 and Walnut Grove 10th.
Towns County is eighth in Class A Division 2 while Habersham Central is 10th in Class 6A and Jefferson, the 2022 Class 4A state runner-up, sitting in 10th in Class 5A.
On the boys side, Johnson (3-0) is the defending Class 5A state champion but is ranked second in Class 4A behind defending Class 4A state champ Southeast Whitfield (4-0). East Hall is ranked fifth in Class 4A.
Gainesville is fourth in Class 6A; Towns County is eighth in Class A Division 2; and Lumpkin County is ninth in Class 3A.
