RABBITTOWN, Ga. — East Hall keeper Kenny Barrera blocked three shots in the penalty kick phase to help the Vikings preserve a 2-1 win over West Hall on Friday in a Copa 985 showdown at Valhalla.

After each Barrera stop, Yerli Mejia, Ainor Romero-Turcios, and Oscar Barcenas all found the back of the net to win the PKs 3-2 for the win.

East Hall took the initial lead on a Jonathan Torres goal in the 38th minute just before the half. West Hall stormed out of the break to tie the match at  1-1 in the 44th minute.

The defenses held on from there. Neither team was able to breakthrough over the final 36 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods.

In the PKs, West Hall scored their first attempt while East Hall missed. It was all East Hall after that.

The win moved East Hall to 3-1 on the season and 3-1 in Copa play. West Hall fell to 0-3 on the season and has dropped all four Copa matches so far on the young season.

East Hall is off until opening Region 8-4A play against Madison County at home next Friday.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Spartans. They play host to Johnson on Tuesday in another Copa 985 match.

Sarah Greiner continued her torrid scoring pace on Friday scoring all four goals in the second half to lead the Lady Falcons to the win.

It was a tight match as the game went to the half scoreless. But Greiner and the Lady Falcons (3-0) exploded. Greiner scored in the 43rd, 50th, 52nd, and 77th minute as they slowly pulled away.

However, it also was another stellar defensive effort for the Branch defense, which has allowed just 1 goal on the season.

Branch next will travel to Discovery on Tuesday.
