Asbury Chapel is a new Global Methodist church-start in Gainesville.  The church was founded by area Methodist Christians with the purpose of creating a new, Christ-centered movement that embraces a solid tradition with unrelenting faithfulness to God’s Word.

Leading Asbury Chapel is Reverend Whit Martin, a Gainesville-native.  Rev. Martin is a graduate of the Gainesville High School class of 2000, a graduate of Young Harris College, Erskine College and Seminary, and received his Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary.  He has pastored churches across Georgia over the last 18 years.  Reverend Martin is grateful for the opportunity to establish a new, exciting ministry in his hometown.

“I am humbled to be called to work beside the amazing people of Asbury Chapel, to provide the community with the opportunity to revive faithful Wesleyan Methodism,” stated Martin.  “Christianity, when lived out in a faithful Methodist discipline, not only makes disciples of Jesus Christ, but makes others better because of a Methodist presence. We will work to add to our community’s success.”

Asbury Chapel is a Global Methodist Church whose mission is “to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.” John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, proclaimed, “The world is my parish.” Ever since, the people called Methodists have committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with people all around the world.  Reverend Martin and the people of Asbury Chapel hope that the community will come experience Jesus with them, sharing the Gospel in the community and beyond.

Asbury Chapel conducted a preview service on Christmas Eve of 2022, making the Good Samaritan Food Ministry their designated Christmas offering. The people in attendance raised $7,900 for Good Samaritan. At their inaugural service on January 8th, 165 were in attendance.  As the Asbury Board of Trustees searches for a home property, Sunday morning services (9:30am) are currently taking place at Riverside Chapel at Memorial Park North, 989 Riverside Drive in Gainesville.
