The Federal Aviation Administration published Friday morning its preliminary report into a deadly single-engine plane crash that happened Thursday afternoon at Lanier Islands resort in Hall County.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that Howard Lee Joe, 60, of Dunwoody, was killed in the crash at about 5:15 p.m.

Joe was piloting a Beechcraft Bonanza single-engine plane when it crashed in a parking lot on Lanier Islands Parkway near Pine Cone Drive.

Joe was the only person aboard the plane and no one on the ground was injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.

The FAA said in a preliminary report that the plane crashed under "unknown circumstances." The FAA said the plane was registered to Lee. Additionally, the plane was manufactured in 2008.

Flight tracking website FlightAware showed the plane took off from DeKalb-Peachtree Airport in Atlanta at about 5:00 p.m. The plane was in the air for about 14 minutes before the crash.

AccessWDUN has reached out to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board for more details and will update this story as they are made available.
