The Hall County Sheriff's Office issued a new warning Monday afternoon about a new phone scam making the rounds after receiving reports from multiple area citizens.
According to a social media post from the agency, citizens have contacted the sheriff's office after receiving calls from scammers who claim they are representatives for a holiday fundraiser for fallen officers.
"We hate scammers of any type, but these people are the lowest of the low in our book," the social media post reads. "Our agency knows first-hand about the heartbreak of losing a fellow officer. Knowing somebody is trying to take your hard-earned money in the name of our fallen colleagues is infuriating!"
The sheriff's office said they will never call citizens and ask for money for any reason.
"In fact, most legitimate non-profits won't make phone calls for donations," the post said.
