The Jackson County Board of Education recently voted to appoint Kristi Holloway as the principal of Heroes Elementary School, which is set to open in 2024.

In a press release, the school system said Holloway will begin her position in January. Heroes Elementary will open in August 2024.

“I am extremely honored and appreciative of the Board of Education’s and Dr. Philip Brown’s trust in me to open and lead Heroes Elementary School,” Holloway said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to lead our future team of teachers, students and families in creating something new and special.”

Holloway currently serves as a professional learning facilitator for Northeast Georgia RESA. Before her current role, Holloway spent 10 years with Jefferson City Schools, holding various roles including assistant principal. Holloway had 13 years of teaching experience with Gwinnett County Public Schools before moving to Jefferson.

“Mrs. Holloway’s experience in public education showed throughout the selection process, and we are excited that she will be the leader of our team at Heroes Elementary School,” Superintendent Dr. Philip Brown said. “Mrs. Holloway is committed to building a culture of excellence inside Heroes Elementary School, and I look forward to working with her, the staff, students and families to ensure HES is a school that our community will be proud of for years to come.”

Holloway is from Buffalo, New York, and attended State University of New York College at Buffalo where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. She earned a Master of Science in Reading and Literacy from Walden University in 2005 and her Educational Administration and Supervision Specialist's Degree from Lincoln Memorial University in 2008.

Holloway is married to Chip Holloway, who is also an educator. The two have two children, Douglas, 23, and Tess, 19.

Heroes Elementary School is the seventh elementary school in the Jackson County School System. The name is meant to recognize heroes in both the Jackson County community and the country who rise to challenges both every day and during the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

It will be located at the intersection of Georgia 332 and Skelton Road near the recently built campus of Jackson County High School and Legacy Knoll Middle School.
