The Jackson EMC Foundation Board of Directors was awarded $225,620 to give away during a recent meeting, $30K of which will be provided to organizations in Hall County.

The first organization that will receive $15,000 is Buford First United Methodist Church, according to information provided by Jackson EMC. Those funds will reportedly be used for the Sack Kids Hunger relief program.

That program provides weekend food bags for children in need in Gwinnett and Hall counties.

The second program that will receive the remaining $15,000 is Straight Street Revolution Ministries, Inc. The nonprofit provides support to those in need in Gainesville and will use the funds to purchase food to place in 6,410 bags in its Backpack Love program.

That program gives students in need a backpack filled with food every weekend.

The grants are made possible by the 211,732 participating cooperative members who round up to the nearest dollar amount on their electric bills. That “spare change,” as Jackson EMC put it, has reportedly funded 1,873 grants to organizations and 426 grants to individuals, putting a total of $19.7 million back into local communities since 2005.

A $15,000 Jackson EMC Foundation check to Straight Street Revolution Ministries, Inc., will help purchase food for the organization’s Backpack Love program.
