Maranatha Christian Academy beat the North Georgia Tribe, 59-47, in its home opener Thursday night.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles (1-0) defense helped extend the lead after a tight three quarters before securing the victory. Senior Tarell Grant finished with a game-high 34 points. Sophomore Bode Fisher chipped in with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Another contributor was Nigel Clayton, who had 7 points. Max Burnette and Shamar James Anderson chipped in with two points apiece. AJ Heywood and Mark Johnson added one point each.
This was also Robert Alfonso Jr's first career victory as a head coach.
