Teenager injured in Sunday evening Gainesville shooting

Posted 9:30AM on Monday 6th November 2023 ( 1 year ago )

A teenager was injured in a shooting Sunday evening in Gainesville, and police say that shooting may have happened near the Regal Hollywood Cinemas movie theater on Dawsonville Highway.

Gainesville Police Lt. Kevin Holbrook said a 19-year-old Hispanic man was dropped off Sunday evening at Northeast Georgia Medical Center with injuries to his arm and abdomen. Police responded to the hospital at about 9:30 p.m. after receiving information that the man had suffered at least one gunshot wound.

The shooting victim was in stable condition as of Monday morning.

"Initial information indicated that the shooting may have occurred in the parking lot of Regal Hollywood Cinemas, though that has not been able to be confirmed," Holbrook said.

Police do not believe this was a random crime.

"This is one of those cases in which we have more questions than answers, and unfortunately, we're not getting the information we need from the victim and/or possible witnesses," Holbrook said. "We feel that this victim was targeted, and/or engaged in illegal activity, but again that's something that we're still trying to determine at this time."

Holbrook did not release any information about a suspect in the crime.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gainesville Police Department at (770) 534-5252, online here or call 911
