A driver has been charged after a two-vehicle wreck Friday afternoon on Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville which left a Murrayville woman in critical condition.

According to new information released Monday morning by the Georgia State Patrol, Madelynn Grace Wingate of Flowery Branch was charged with failure to maintain lane following the accident that left Tina Maria Garber in critical condition.

The Georgia State Patrol said the wreck happened at about 4 p.m. on Thompson Bridge Road near Willow Oak Drive, just north of the City of Gainesville.

Wingate was driving a BMW X3 SUV south on Thompson Bridge Road when she allegedly failed to maintain her lane and crossed into the northbound lane. The SUV then struck the front of the Toyota Avalon Sedan which Garber was driving north.

The Toyota rotated after the impact and came to a stop on a nearby guardrail. Garber had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with serious injuries. Wingate was not taken to the hospital.
